When Hazel opens a strange book in the forest and gets pulled inside, she keeps making the wrong fairy tale choices — and the story keeps getting weirder because of it.

Hazel gets pulled into Jack and the Beanstalk, but she refuses to steal the Giant's stuff — because taking things that aren't yours is just stealing, even in a fairy tale.

Hazel gets cast as Cinderella but refuses to lie about who she is, questions the safety of glass footwear, and tries to have an honest conversation with the stepsisters instead of sneaking off to a ball.

Hazel is cast as the miller's daughter in Rumpelstiltskin, but instead of guessing the little man's name, she just asks him — and discovers that all he ever wanted was for someone to bother learning it.

Hazel is cast as the Little Mermaid and told to trade her voice for legs, but she refuses — because giving up talking is literally the worst thing she can imagine, and also, deals are still wrong.

Hazel gets pulled into The Frog Prince, but she won't kiss a frog she hasn't even talked to yet — so she sits by the pond and asks him what he actually wants, and it isn't what the story thinks.
