The War of the Worlds
About
On a quiet summer evening in 1898, something falls from the sky over Surrey. By morning, more have landed. H. G. Wells's classic invasion story — England against minds older and colder than their own.
Episodes
1. The Falling Star
A meteor falls on Horsell Common, and a curious crowd gathers to see it. By sundown they understand what has really arrived from the dark of space.
2. The Heat-Ray
Evening on Horsell Common. A crowd gathers to watch the pit from a safe distance. A small group steps out from the trees and starts walking toward it, carrying a white flag.
3. The First Fighting Machine
Surrey is emptying. The sky is breaking. The pits stand open. And in the dark fields between them, something is loose.
4. The Road from London
In London, a medical student wakes to the sound of panic. By noon the city is fleeing east. By evening, only one warship stands between the refugees and what is wading after them through the sea.
5. In the Wrecked House
A fifth cylinder smashes into the very house. Two men survive the impact, but now they must live for two weeks behind a thin wall, listening to the Martians at work on the other side.
6. Dead London
Walking out into a country barely recognisable: silent, half-buried in red Martian weed, with London lying empty on the horizon. Somewhere out there is the road home. Whatever home means now.
